The Green Thumb Visiting a Flower Garden

Hello everyone! Wow, another week is finally here! February is  quite a not a boring month. There are a lot of things to do especially at home. My days are always busy inspite staying at home all the time.  I wish spring season is around the corner because I am already quite excited to see the tulips in our garden. It is not a long wait anymore because in a month or two,  I will surely be seeing my flowers  in our garden.

Varieties of orchids in the garden center.
This is only one good thing because when I really get  bored, which is  seldom to happen, I always look at the flowers in  my photo albums. If not, I also drive to the nearest garden center. Sometimes, I bring home flowers with me but most of the time, I don't really buy one. Our home is already full of  plants and decors. Every window has  plants and decors on it.  Except when it is spring  or summer,  I cannot say no to buying flowers.

Lovely bromeliads at the garden center. One of the flowers that I love.
One things I love doing when going to a garden center is to take photographs of the different flowers inside. I am glad that even the saleslady or salesman who caught me taking pictures would just say nothing. I am always happy coming home when I am done visiting a garden center.

Home and Garden Improvements Still Going On

There are still a lot of home improvements that we need to do in our house. Our bathroom needs a total repair plus we need to install a new tilt and turn window. We are planning to replace our old kitchen set hopefully next year. In five years maybe, our roof needs a replacement also. We are just doing all these home improvements little by little when finances are available.

We are currently building a garden terrace and a carport or I would say a garage. Actually these two are adjacent to each other. We found this project a priority especially during winter time. Since we don't have a garage it is very difficult for our two cars to stay outside in open air. Sometimes when you wake-up early in the morning during winter time, everything is already covered with snow. It needs more time and energy to clean it.

the digging started last April 2011. this area was before full of plants and flowers. This is where our garage and terrace will stand soon.

The highlight for this year's home improvement is the terrace. I can't wait to sit on a coffee table that I am planning to buy. Since the garden terrace is huge enough, probably around 30 square meters, I am also planning to put rustic garden furniture in there.

I was asking hubby if everything will be finished before my birthday comes in August. If not, it is still fine for me. Thanks to hubby for all the patience and diligence in working on it.

They are evergreen shrubs or lianas. The leaves are opposite or whorled, or alternate in some species. The flowers are white or pink, produced in large panicles.

Beautiful Petunia Flowers

Isn't this a blue violet color? No matter what we still love these flowers and we have some in our garden. I just research online about these flowers and I found out its categories below. Thanks to the experts of wikipedia for sharing it.

"CATEGORIES OF PETUNIA

Grandiflora

This type of petunias has the largest flowers, up to 4 inches in diameter. Of all the petunias these have the widest variety of forms and colors but are the most likely to be damaged by heavy rain. There are four types of grandiflora and they are classified by their colors, namely, ‘Daddy Series’ (shades of pink and purple), ‘Merlin Blue Morn’ (blue and white), ‘Supercascade Series’ (many colors) and ‘Ultra Series’ (many colors including bicolor).

Spreading

Spreading petunias (sometimes called groundcover) are characterized by their low height (usually about six inches), but a large spread (about three to four feet). They will cover a large area provided they have adequate water and fertilization. ‘Purple Wave’ was the first introduced cultivar of spreading petunias and grows to a height of 4 inches. ‘Tidal Wave’ is another spreading type of petunia, but is much taller (between sixteen and twenty two inches). ‘Opera Supreme’ is a cultivar with large flowers.

Mulitflora

Multiflora, when compared to grandiflora are half the size, 2 inches in diameter, they are not easily damaged in heavy rain and can tolerate more sun. Multiflora petunias cultivars include: 'Carpet Series' (many colors), 'Surfinia Series' (pink, blue, purple and white), and 'Wave Series' (pink, coral and purple). These spread quickly and are ideal for hanging baskets.

Milliflora

Milliflora are the smallest of the petunias and about 1 inch across. These are prettiest when mixed with other plants in containers, along garden beds, and edges. Milliflora are available in 'Fantasy Series' (red, purple, pink) and are the easiest to find. 'Supertunia Mini Series' (blue, pink, lilac, purple and white)are also available in the milliflora catagory. They tolerate harsh weather better when compared to grandifloras and multifloras.

Scientific classification

Kingdom: Plantae
(unranked): Angiosperms
(unranked): Eudicots
(unranked): Asterids
Order: Solanales
Family: Solanaceae
Genus: Petunia
