The Green Thumb Visiting a Flower Garden

Hello everyone! Wow, another week is finally here! February is  quite a not a boring month. There are a lot of things to do especially at home. My days are always busy inspite staying at home all the time.  I wish spring season is around the corner because I am already quite excited to see the tulips in our garden. It is not a long wait anymore because in a month or two,  I will surely be seeing my flowers  in our garden.

Varieties of orchids in the garden center.
This is only one good thing because when I really get  bored, which is  seldom to happen, I always look at the flowers in  my photo albums. If not, I also drive to the nearest garden center. Sometimes, I bring home flowers with me but most of the time, I don't really buy one. Our home is already full of  plants and decors. Every window has  plants and decors on it.  Except when it is spring  or summer,  I cannot say no to buying flowers.

Lovely bromeliads at the garden center. One of the flowers that I love.
One things I love doing when going to a garden center is to take photographs of the different flowers inside. I am glad that even the saleslady or salesman who caught me taking pictures would just say nothing. I am always happy coming home when I am done visiting a garden center.

See You Next Year Again Tulips

They are gone now in our garden. I guess they are only resting down the soil to get ready for spring next year. They had already done their part beautifying our garden during spring season. I am missing the tulips in our garden. I am not really sad because I know I will see them again next year.  I don't have to worry too because I always take pictures of them  everytime they are coming back to our garden.

Two kinds of tulips  in our garden. See you next year again!

The Yellow Daffodils in Our Garden

Most of them are gone now  and  I am happy to see them once in a year. Daffodil is the  common name  of the Narcissus flowering plant. They are bulbous plants and are winter hard. They always bloom flowers every spring time. It feels like a therapy for my body and spirit everytime I see them blooming in our garden. Truly such a beauty of nature!

These daffodils are from our garden and was captured last April 2012.
All Narcissus species have a central bell-, bowl-, or disc-shaped corona surrounded by a ring of six floral leaves called the perianth which is united into a tube at the forward edge of the 3-locular ovary. The seeds are black, round and swollen with a hard coat. The three outer segments are sepals, and the three inner segments are petals. Though the traditional daffodil of folklore, poetry, and field may have a yellow to golden-yellow color all over, both in the wild species and due to breeding, the perianth and corona may be variously colored. Breeders have developed some daffodils with double, triple, or ambiguously multiple rows and layers of segments, and several wild species also have known double variants. wikipedia

First Bloom in Our Garden

Spring time is finally here! The calendar in front of me says that spring in Germany officially starts on March 20 this year. I went outside our garden today to look for the first blooms of the flowers. I already saw a lot. One of it are the tulip flowers. Hyacinths, violas and the little white wild flowers are also blooming. It makes me happy again to see the beauty of nature in our garden. I love it!

I Love These Orange Daisies or Asteraceae

I am quite familiar with these  flowers because our neighbor before had a lot of these in her garden. I also had a schoolmate whose name is Daisy. Thats is why this flower is known to me. It belongs to the family of  Asteraceae or Compositae, commonly referred to as daisy, aster or sunflower family. It is said to be one of the most largest flowering plant families in the world.

I planted these flowers in our garden before but it is  not coming back after winter. There are wild ones that I can see in our garden flowering at the moment. Spring time is here and I already see a lot of them.

Daisy roots are usually taproots, and sometimes fibrous. Stems are generally erect, but sometimes prostrate to ascending. Some species have underground stems in the form of caudices or rhizomes, these can be fleshy or woody depending on the species. Daisy roots are usually taproots, and sometimes fibrous. Hydrangea, Hortensia and Some Cacti

Busy...busy..busy..February is quite a busy month for me. Despite of that I am very thankful that I was able to accomplish some things. Thanks God for all the blessings also. I am offering you these wonderful flowers called Hydrangea or Hortensia. Back home in the Philippines, we call it million flowers due to its many petals.

Hydrangea flowers are produced from early spring to late autumn; they grow in flowerheads (corymbs or panicles) at the ends of the stems. In many species, the flowerheads contain two types of flowers, small fertile flowers in the middle of the flowerhead, and large, sterile bract-like flowers in a ring around the edge of each flowerhead. Other species have all the flowers sterile and of the same size.

Beautiful Dahlia in our Garden

Dahlia is a genus of bushy, tuberous, perennial plants native to Mexico, Central America, and Colombia. There are at least 36 species of dahlia, some like D. imperialis up to 10 metres tall. Dahlia hybrids are commonly grown as garden plants. The Aztecs gathered and cultivated the dahlia for food, ceremonies, as well as decorative purposes, and the long woody stem of one variety was used for small pipes.

Dahlias are used as food plants by the larvae of some Lepidoptera species including Angle Shades, Common Swift, Ghost Moth and Large Yellow Underwing. wikipedia.

Roses in Our Garden

We have been transferring some flowers and plants in our garden since two weeks ago. When it will be raining in the next days, I will be doing it again. I find it not good digging plants and transferring it when the weather is hot. I am afraid the plants will die.

We are almost done with the roses. I still have some more that needs to be transferred. Anyway the roses below was taken last summer 2010 in our garden.

did you see the castle tower on the picture..yes, we live near a castle ruin and I love it.

Beautiful Bromeliads

I love this flower! It is called Bromeliad or Bromeliaceae. It belongs to the family of Ananas or pineapples. Bromeliads are a varied group of organisms, adapted to a number of climates. Foliage take different shapes, from needle thin to broad and flat, symmetrical to irregular, spiky and soft. The foliage, which usually grows in a rosette, is the most widely patterned and colored of any plant in the world. Leaf colors range from maroon, through shades of green, to gold. Varieties may have leaves with red, yellow, white and cream variegations. Others may be spotted with purple, red, or cream, while others have different colors on the tops and bottoms of the leave.

I have hundreds of these before in my garden back home. I only took this image in one of the garden centers nearby.

Beautiful Tulips from Our Garden

A lot of tulips from our garden is still blooming. Some are gone now but some are still in full bloom. Others are still on the process of blooming. I hope I am not quite complicated here. I am just happy since few weeks ago after seeing a lot of tulips blooming in our garden. If I could only wish that they will bloom the whole year but I guess only a miracle could do it. We have more varieties and colors this year than the past years. We planted more last year during Fall time and now they are here spreading beauty to our garden. It is a nice feeling seeing them again. Our hearts are dancing everytime we take a look at them.

Here are some kinds of tulips fresh from our garden!
the tulips above are the same ones you see in our header template here. They always come back every year. We simply love nature and we love flowers too!
ORIGIN OF THE NAME

Although tulips are associated with Holland, commercial cultivation of the flower began in the Ottoman Empire. The tulip, or lale (from Persian لاله, lâleh) as it is also called in Iran and Turkey, is a flower indigenous to a vast area encompassing parts of Africa, Asia, and Europe. The word tulip, which earlier appeared in English in forms such as tulipa or tulipant, entered the language by way of French tulipe and its obsolete form tulipan or by way of Modern Latin tulīpa, from Ottoman Turkish tülbend ("muslin" or "gauze"), and is ultimately derived from the Persian language dulband ("turban"). (The English word turban, first recorded in English in the 16th century, is a cognate.)
the last two images here are the new varieties we planted from last year's Fall season. We love it!

Lovely Red Tulips from Our Garden

Here are more red tulips from our garden. What a beauty of nature it brings us! Simply beautiful!
some of the red tulips and orange colored ones from our garden
Tulips are indigenous to mountainous areas with temperate climates and need a period of cool dormancy. They do best in climates with long cool springs and early summers, but are often grown as spring blooming annual plantings in warmer areas of the world. The bulbs are typically planted in late summer and fall, normally from 10 to 20 cm (4 to 8 in.) deep, depending on the type planted, in well-drained soils. In parts of the world that do not have long cool springs and early summers, the bulbs are often planted up to 12 inches deep; this provides some protection from the heat of summer and tends to force the plants to regenerate one large bulb each year instead of many smaller non-blooming ones. This can extend the usefulness of the plants in warmer areas a few years but not stave off the degradation in bulb size and eventual death of the plants. more here

Friday

Myth associated with Hyacinth

Hyacinth was a beautiful youth loved by both the god Apollo and the West Wind, Zephyr. Apollo and Hyacinth took turns at throwing the discus. Hyacinth ran to catch it to impress Apollo, but was struck by the discus as it fell to the ground, and died. A twist in the tale makes the wind god Zephyrus responsible for the death of Hyacinth. The youth's beauty caused a feud between Zephyrus and Apollo. Jealous that Hyacinth preferred the radiant archery god Apollo, Zephyrus blew Apollo's discus off course, so as to injure and kill Hyacinth. Apollo did not allow Hades to claim Hyacinth. Instead, Apollo made a flower, the hyacinth, from Hyacinth's spilled blood.
